William recounts: I had never heard of Travis, but they got a great review in Q and their
album was only a fiver, so I considered getting it, but decided against. Then I
spent a weekend in Aberdeen with my mate Ali drinking the place dry, and on
Saturday he played the album to get us up. I went and bought the album that
afternoon, and haven't looked back. I saw them for the first time (or so I
thought) in Edinburgh last night and they were fantastic. It was so refreshing
to see a band that was so obviously enjoying itself. Then they said they'd
played the Mound at the start of the year, and I suddenly remembered I'd been
there, waiting outside Jenner's for Pete. It was late afternoon and only fiveish
people were watching, and I was guttered, but even then (getting misty eyed now)
you could tell they were on the way up. Then they said goodnight, I clapped, and
we went our separate ways. I didn't realise it at the time, but I've been a
Travis fan since then.
