Tales

Tanja tells tales: When I first heard "All I Wanna Do Is Rock," I thought it did indeed rock, but I didn't pay that much attention because my head was full of my forthcoming trip to France ( I lived there last year for some months)...one week before my big trip, I saw "Tied to the 90s" on MTV UK....I thought, "It's them again! This sounds great too!"...and to cheer me up, I bought their album in France...Their music surrounded a lot of good moments for me (sorry for my crap English..."surrounded" isn't the proper word, I reckon...but I can't think of any other at the mo...hope you now what I mean anyway?)

I came back to Germany in December, and in February I saw TRAVIS live in Cologne and Frankfurt. They rocked totally! They played for about 1 1/2 h and it really seemed as if they were enjoying themselves! Fran just seemed like the mate of everyone coz you can tell he's a real chatterbox--and I prefer that to bands who just say, "Thx. The next song is called..." Boring! Anyway...we met them at the gig in Cologne, as well as after their gig in Frankfurt, where we gave Fran a tape with German bands on (coz we wanted to say "THX" for the great gigs). He was really pleased and kept on talking to us for hours, e.g., about his difficulties to buy "Zwieback" for his girlfriend (as he doesn't do much German). He told that he and Dougie bought a "German in 3 months" book and he said they are going to learn German now...already, he was able to say "Zwei Wurst mit Brot und ein Cola"....at least he would survive if he'd be all on his own in Germany! :)

Well, two weeks ago (at the end of May) we saw them at Rock im Park again. The gig wasn't that good coz Fran wasn't talking at all as they didn't have the time, but the music was good as always! We didn't expect to meet them there, but we did! Doug and Fran were sitting in the audience, and we decided not to bother them too long...but we wanted to know about the tape. Actually, it is in Fran's kitchen, and he listens to it sometimes! We were really happy when Fran and Doug remembered us! When they started talking, there was no escape (who really would like to escape from them two???) and we had a lot of fun...Fran didn't learn much from the German book, but his girlfriend taught him some real good stuff, like "muss kotzen," which means "having to vomit" :() Doug said he's going to learn Italian and will teach Fran, and Fran will teach Doug some German... we'll see!

When Chumbawamba finally entered the stage, they said goodbye to us (who would really want to see Chumbawamba live??)...sigh sigh...
