28 October 2001: Right, we now know that Travis is the name on everybody's lips in America, given their extensive coverage of the place (actually, it's more likely to be Osama bin Laden, but we're trying to create the right mood here) They've won famous fans, and Hanson have been quoted on their official website saying "Check them out". 12 August 2001: We just got a note from a fellow-fan who was lucky enough to attend the secret Travis gig that took place on May 12. Without further ado, we'll let him explain:
On May 12th, Travis played their first UK gig at a school fete...yes, a school fete.
The school was Western Park Primary School in North London. They appeared after a request from a neighbour, and apart from a handful of people, The Sun newspaper (who were tipped off), and us, nobody knew.
While an Ali G lookalike played with the face-painted youngsters, who could believe the biggest band in the world today were just belting out their hits just yards away.

- Virginmega.com is webcasting Travis' instore performance in Hollywood on July 12 and July 17 at 4pm PST/7pm EST. To log on, simply go to Virginmega.com and click on Megacast.
- Reaching out to a more limited audience, BBC Radio Scotland will feature Travis on "Rock Profile", a half-hour programme, on Monday July 16th at 10.35pm (BST, presumably). It will "feature new interview material from all band members, take you back to the Glass Onion days and how they won a Radio Scotland battle of the bands from 600 plus entrants." (not our spiel, by the way, so don't come looking for us if it fails to deliver) You can catch this in Scotland, Northern England, Northern Ireland on 92-95FM, 810 MW. 19 June 2001: Haven't got your copy of The Invisible Band yet? Obviously, Travis have one fewer person to thank for helping them get to number one. Well, follow the link to 2001freebies.co.uk, which is giving out a copy of the new album if you find the hidden (but not invisible) cover. Contest ends 31 July. So, erm, hurry! (If you're reading this on the 31st, that is.) You might also consider getting the U.S. or Australian version, which comes with 2 bonus tracks: "Ring Out the Bell" and "You Don't Know What I'm Like" (b-sides from "Sing").
6 June 2001: Well, it's less than a week before the release of The Invisible Band. Those of you who are over in the United Kingdom have already had a couple of chances to see and hear the new Travis songs, but those of us in the United States aren't going to be left in the lurch this time (for a change), though international fans will have to wait a little longer. Anywho, here's the plethora of goodies awaiting U.S. fans:
- VH1 is showing Travis on Storytellers this Friday (June 8) at 9 p.m. Check out the VH1 site for more details.
- Travis will be doing a handful of free shows and signings in U.S. cities. There are all kinds of limits to the shows, but if you're in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, or New York, you're in luck. Here are the dates:

30 March 2001: We're always the last to know! But here are some tidbits of gossip to keep you going:
- The album is pretty much done and will be titled The Invisible Band, set for release in early June; first single will be "Sing," due in late May.
- The video for "Sing" will be directed by the team of Dayton & Faris. You've undoubtedly seen their work on videos such as the Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight Tonight" and "1979" and Oasis's "All Around the World." In the commercial realm, they're the people behind the Volkswagen ad with the Nick Drake song and the Gap's last batch of Christmas spots, featuring tunes by Badly Drawn Boy, Red House Painters, and the Dandy Warhols.
- Stephan Ruiz once again took the photographs for the album, apparently in my neck of the woods (northern California). If you've ever been to the seaside town of Santa Cruz or have skipped around San Francisco, perhaps the photos will look eerily familiar to you.
- The band will do a coheadlining U.S. tour with Dido in June. I'll post the dates later.
- Look for interviews in major media outlets (such as Q, NME, MTV, and so on) to start showing up soon.
