Kate pulls up a seat: About a year ago, when I used to stay up late on Saturday night to watch Jools Holland, Travis did one song and I thought they were amazing. They sang one of their mellower ones, and Fran had his eyes closed a lot, looking really moved. And I thought they were a bit Radiohead-y then (four months later all the music press were comparing Travis to them.). After that I forgot about them until "U16 Girls" was released in March (or April). I thought that was brilliant and so was the next single "All I Wanna Do Is Rock" but I still didn't pay too much attention to them.

Then? In the middle of summer 1997 I went into town intending to buy Symposium's Fairweather Friend, except I didn't have enough money and ended up buying Tied To The Nineties instead, which was a song that'd been on the radio quite a lot. I love the "Hey"s at the start and the B-side, "Whenever She Comes Around".

About a week after that I saw them live at the Reading Festival and that was when I really fell in love with them. The gig just had the best atmosphere and everyone was happy and smiling. Fran makes them a really crowd friendly band because he talks and smiles a lot. He was really enthusiastic about the music and you could tell he loved it. The louder songs and then the really epic ones were all brilliant and they finished with Happy which just topped it all off. None of the reviews of that gig even come close to how good it was.

They released the album on my birthday which was fate, I think. It was on in HMV when I bought it and it sounded amazing and IT IS! If you haven't already, you should buy the album NOW!
