| Anecdote |
Janet says: I saw Travis twice when they toured with Ben Folds Five (who I really went
to the concerts for) having never heard Travis, but having heard of them. The
first time was in Redondo Beach, CA on Nov. 29 and then the next night, Nov. 30
in Los Angeles. They were the best opening band I had ever seen and I was
really able to warm to their music after the first night. At the LA show I was
standing in line with some friends outside the venue and we saw Dougie and Andy
roaming around but we decided not to bother them. We were making "Hello,
my name is" nametags for the members of Ben Folds Five (it's a bff concert
thing) and one of us went to give them to Doug, their roadie, to give to the
band. As Doug was talking to Fran, my friend walked up to them, gave Doug the
tags and then started conversing with Fran on how great Travis was. Fran then
saw the nametags we were making and decided that he wanted to get some for
Travis too so he came on over to where we all were in line and we gave him a
bunch of nametags and we started talking and making nametags for the other band
members. Fran made a nametag for me as a souvenir that had some sort of name (I
think it's his, I can't tell). Later on when the band played Fran immediately
recognized us (in the front of course). Fran, Neil and Andy donned their
nametags (all except Dougie who probably found them to be tasteless) and
everything was quite lovely the rest of the show. Fran sang the "I met a
girl in LA..." part in "U16 Girls" in my direction with a little laugh, and I
got to have his guitar pick afterwards. Good fun. Ever since they've been
favorites of mine.
