Fling

Heather offers: Travis is fabulous. Like it has been said before, living in the States does not offer up much opportunity to hear good music. Thankfully I have a few friends dedicated to getting good music from across the ocean. I had Travis's CDs but had yet to see them. Then in December (actually, it was January--Uyen), I believe, they came to play in L.A., where I live. They played at the Troubador, a fantastic club. Before the concert, Neil came out and chatted with those in line, signed autographs, took pics, etc. It was a fantastic concert, a small club and a terrific band.

Just a couple weeks ago (April 2000), Travis came again to play with Oasis. On the afternoon before the concert, they played an instore concert at Virgin, then had a signing. Fran and Dougie played to an enraptured crowd. I believe the sun of southern California may have been a bit shocking for the boys, but they played "Why does it always rain on me?" anyways. :) It was fabulous, then we were able to get all of our stuff signed by all of them. Dougie complimented me on my name with his delicious accent and I nearly left my husband right there! Good thing he was there to carry me on. :)

The Oasis concert was okay, and that is all, it was okay. Travis were wonderful, and it was very cool to see them transform the entire crowd into Travis-lovers. They even got a standing ovation from the usually very apathetic L.A. crowd. The next night Travis played again! A larger club than the Troubador, 800 ppl or so, but again it was a terrific experience. They are just such a wonderful band, with great music and a great attitude about playing for people. The onstage banter between Fran and Dougie should be recorded and released as a separate single. So, a third concert in two days, the fans could have not been happier.

Word is they will be here this summer to record a new album. I look forward to seeing them again, our plan is to coax them to go drinking with us. he, he.
