| Hurrah |
Hannah's hurrah: I was at the infamous Fillmore for my first time ever. I had just turned 16, and I was filled with excitement. The crowd was mostly the late-twenties to mid-thirties set; a blur of flannel and bad hair. Nonetheless, I was pumped. I didn't really know much of Ben Folds Five's work, but I was planning on a fun evening. Little did I know what was in store...The lights dimmed, and four guys wandered onto the stage. Apparently no one else could remember the name of the opening act either. Suddenly, a burst of sound, a rolling thunder of intense guitar, Scottish accents, drums....The energy exploded in the room. I was in love. It was a Beach Boys song! I was enthralled. Their mums were there! I was obsessed. THEN...they dedicated "U16 Girls" to all the 16-year-old girls in the audience! Looking around, I realized that this was only my friend and I. A song for us? We both nearly fainted.
After the show, we picked up some of their stickers (my car still proudly wears one). My friend and I agreed that BF5 could not compare. Radiohead? Not a chance. They reminded us of Teenage Fanclub on caffeine pills. We bought the album. It definitely lived up to their live show. We are both huge fans now!
Thank you Travis, for making me one very happy 16 Girl!
Love,
Hannah from San Francisco
