THE UNBELIEVABLE TRUTH / THE HYBIRDS / ULTRASOUND / TRAVIS

TRAVIS start the year with their own, proper grown-up headline gig having spent the last two years supporting every major popular beat combo on the planet, it seems. Their 90's glam-rock isn't the most original thing this week, but when you've got a band as happy-go-lucky and resolutely unpretentious as Travis playing it, it doesn't matter.

In three albums' time (hopefully they'll get that far), we may look back and see songs like "The Line is Fine" and "All I Wanna Do Is Rock" as the portent of a world-conquering band. Good Feeling is a solid debut, if a little patchy, and tonight the songs gathered from it show the self-confidence inherent in Travis after a year of touring, touring, touring. They reach their peak on a brilliant "U16 Girls" and "Happy," buoyed by its sappy ELO-isms. Melancholy rock? You can keep it...
