17 November 1999: The Man Who will be released in the States in April 2000! I've cribbed the entire report from allstar news:
British darlings Travis will finally see their critically acclaimed
sophomore effort, The Man Who, in U.S. stores in April on Epic Records,
albeit a slightly different version than the one released in May in the
U.K.
The initial run of The Man Who will tentatively hit American stores on
April 11 and include three live tracks previously unreleased in the U.S.
"Driftwood" and "Slide Show," both recorded live at the Link Cafe in
Glasgow, Scotland; and "More Than Us," recorded live from Italia Radio,
will be included on the U.S. version. Although absent from the U.K.
version of The Man Who, the songs are available on the European issue of
the album.
Travis' "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" a beautifully melancholy pop
ballad which took home the Q award for Best Single two weeks ago in
London (allstar, Nov. 3), has helped propel the album to double platinum
in the U.K. and over a million sales worldwide. The album has remained
in the Top 20 on the U.K. charts since its release.
In related news, Travis' debut, Good Feeling will be re-released in the
U.K. Nov. 29 with new artwork. The track listing will remain the same.
Please check our discography for more info on the extra tracks; you can find them as b-sides on previous singles.
2 September 1999: Mike from Australia reports that you Southern Hemisphere listeners will be able to buy The Man Who as of August 9. (Sorry that this news is so late; Addy's studing for her exams.) Let us know if you've had a listen. Also, this is old news, but Travis has had the No. 1 album in the UK for two weeks now, outselling the likes of all those crap bands I'm not even going to bother mentioning. That calls for a celebration!

27 May 1999: Even as I type, I believe BBC Radio 1 is broadcasting Travis's performance at the Glasgow Garage. Those of us who aren't so fortunate to be anywhere near the range of Radio 1 can surf to www.travisonline.com for a Webcast tomorrow. Here's the lowdown from those Webmasters themselves:
On May 28th, Travis will play selected tracks from the stunning new LP The Man Who live on the Net. Fran and Dougie will perform at the Glasgow Internet Cafe, 569 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, and the performance will be broadcast live at travisonline.com. They will play at 2.00pm (BST).
24 May 1999: Of course you know that the "Driftwood" single has been released and hit No. 13 on the charts, and that the LP proper, The Man Who, comes out today. Did you also know that there's a bonus track on the CD? And that there's some multimedia content, as well? And that the vinyl version comes with an extra 12-inch single? Well, we're not entirely sure of this ourselves 'cos we're not in the U.K., but that's what we hear.
Lyrics to the b-sides from "Writing to Reach You" will be on the site soon.
4 May 1999: Hmm, it's been a little while, hasn't it? This news is woefully late, but here we go anyway.
This week, you can find a Travis song on the free CD that comes with the NME. Here's what the Enemy, errr, NME has to say about the track:
She's So Strange: Big Bowie-esque ballad from the rocking new Independiente album The Man Who, due out on May 24.
You can check out the full story on the NME Web site.
And don't forget that the new single, "Driftwood," is due out May 17, a week before the official release of the album. Here's what to expect when you spend your hard-earned money on the double-disc set (info c/o TravisOnline):
CD1 (Cat No ISOM 27 MS)
Driftwood
Be My Baby
Where Is the Love
("Be My Baby" is a cover of the Ronettes' sixties classic.)
CD2 (Cat No ISOM 27 SMS)
Driftwood
Writing to Reach You--The Deadly Avenger's Bayou Blues Mix
Writing to Reach You--The Deadly Avenger's Instrumental Mix
We're going to withhold comment on the whole remix thing. Hmmm....
19 Mar. 1999: Tops of the Pops has posted a transcript of the band's online chat. (We've also included it on our links page.)
18 Mar. 1999: Travis has been visiting various British TV studios, we hear, but as neither of us are anywhere near the country, we'll have to take everyone else's word for it. Also, Travis apparently did a Top of the Pops chat today, but I think I was asleep (that's my excuse, anyway). Hmm, those boys are really getting into the technology thing, aren't they? No complaints here...we'll post a transcript (or at least link to the transcript) as soon as one is made available.
15 Mar. 1999: Have you been saving up your pennies for that rainy day? 'Cos Travis has announced some tour dates (Addy and Uyen will continue to sulk on their separate continents):

4 Mar. 1999: The official site has started rolling out its new look, and we give it a big thumbs-up. Seeing as we'll probably never see Travis videos where we are, the clip of "Writing to Reach You" is just groovy, though it's a little too short. Check 'em out: http://www.travisonline.com/.
p.s. The single is now due out on March 8.

DAWN OF A NEW WAGE
ASH play their only UK show this year with The Divine Comedy, Space, Travis, and Fungus for a benefit show to promote the Campaign For A Living Wage.
Organised by Unison, the public sector workers' union, the show is being held at Newcastle Telewest Arena (April 10). Ticket prices are pegged at the under-22 minimum hourly wage rate: £3. The gig runs from 3pm to 8pm, doors open at 1.30pm.
The show will follow a two-mile march setting off from Gateshead Civic Centre at noon across the Tyne Bridge and through Newcastle to the arena.
[snip]
A spokesman for Unison said: "The aim of this march and live event will be to press for an increase in the level of the minimum wage and to end age discrimination against young people.
"The early stage times and subsidised ticket prices are to ensure this concert is particularly accessible to young people."
5 Feb. 1999: So much press goings-on today! First off, the NME fills us in on the latest Travis happenings, straight from Francis's big and lovely mouth:

ALL I WANNA DO IS STOOL-ROCK
TRAVIS release their second album on May 22 through Independiente--and frontman Fran Healy has told NME the album is a lot mellower than their last.
"I'm fed up jumping about the stage like an idiot," he said. "I want to play my instrument a bit better. This is a mellow album; the first album was one you could go out to. This one is an album you can stay in to. You can do your dishes to it, you can do your homework to it."
One track, 'Village Man', is the antithesis of 'All I Want Do Is Rock' (Travis's first single), with a first line of, "I don't want to rock, baby don't want to rock".
'Writing To Reach You', released on March 1, will be the first single from the still-untitled follow-up to September '97's Good Feeling.
Released on two CDs, it features four new songs, 'Green Behind The Ears', 'Only Molly Knows', 'Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah', and 'High As A Kite'.
Another possible single is 'Flowers In The Window', described by Fran as "a really happy track, a total killer".
Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich and Mike Hedges, who produced Everything Must Go for the Manic Street Preachers, both worked on the album.
Former Art Of Noise collaborator Anne Dudley, who provided string arrangements for Travis's last single, 'More Than Us', in 1998, turns up on a new track called 'Luv'. The band also confirmed that they would be playing Glastonbury and touring around the time of the album's release.
And the band has been paying its bills 'cos good ol' Anglo Plugging also weighs in with an update (I'm assuming Francis is chattering again in this one):
http://www.angloplugging.co.uk/news/013099travis.htm
TRAVIS return to the fray on March 1st. Almost 12 months on from their top 20 hit "More Than Us" comes "Writing To Reach You", a simply stunning single. The year in exile has hardly been a year of misspent youth.
So how was 98 for you, Mr. Travis.
'Well it was kind of busy. Started the year playing alongside our Celtic cousins Catatonia on the Radio 1 sponsored Evening Session Tour. Many a night was whiled away on cider and tabs and many a morning with an aching head. A few weeks spent writing some new tunes led us to a delightful Saturday afternoon at T in The Park. Oh, how the sun shone--it wasn't quite the same on the Sunday. Our winter of content was spent in the studio. Worked with Nigel Godrich and learnt a whole lot more. We've finished our album and now you can hear the first instalment.'
"Writing To Reach You" demonstrates the true beauty of Fran Healy's voice. His delivery is just plain heart wrenching. The song itself is a simple devotion to sentiment, love, and miscommunication.
"Writing To Reach You" will be available on the following formats:
CD1
Writing To Reach You
Green Behind The Ears
Only Molly Knows
CD2
Writing To Reach You
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
High As A Kite

25 Jan. 1999: Hey kids! We have a picture of the cover of the new Travis promo single for you! Take a look:
Oooooh, could that new font and somber gray coloring indicate the more "mature" direction that the band is heading in? Or will it still be laughs by the pintfull from the boys? Only time will tell...
12 Jan. 1999: Happy New Year to you all! Travis's new single, "Writing to Reach You," premiered on Steve Lamacq's Evening Session last night. All reports have pegged it as brilliant (what else would you expect), but seeing as neither of your Webmistresses live in the United Kingdom, we can't vouch for it ourselves. (The slightly muffled sound you hear in the background is probably the two of us crying.) However, if you download the screensaver from the official Travis Web site, you can hear the first few bars of the song--which are, indeed, brilliant.
So to summarize: the official Web site is up, though it's still in development; the new single is scheduled for release on Feb. 22, 1999; and the new album will be out in March (it'll be here before you know it).
